FAQ
What is tempered glass?
Toughened or tempered glass has been processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with untreated glass. Tempered glass is made by processes that create balanced internal stresses, which gives the glass additional strength. It shatters into small fragments instead of sharp shards when broken, making it less likely to cause severe injury. C.S.A. code requires all glass installation companies to install tempered glass in all shower applications. Doors & More uses tempered glass 100% of the time.
What glass finishes are available?
Glass finishes include: clear, raindrop, pinhead, straight sandblasting (for the entire piece of glass), and band sandblasting (band will cover the mid-section of the shower).
When can you measure?
Once you can confirm all tile work & any threshold is complete, we can come to measure within 1-3 business days.
How long will my shower take to install?
Typically, your shower will be installed within 2 weeks from the day we measure your glass.
Can the doors be installed to swing into the shower?
Yes, doors can be installed to swing in, out, or a combination of both—depending on what is best suited for your bathroom (considering water pressure and space etc).
Why do some showers have channel on the ceiling?
When glass is siliconed to a drywall ceiling, C.S.A. code does not consider it to be a structural fastening point. Therefore, without the channel, it is unsafe.
Can Doors & More use 12 mm (½”) glass for showers?
The average single shower door weighs roughly 7.2 lbs per ft, weighing 100 lbs swinging with 2 hinges. This would need constant adjusting and will prove to be unsafe over time. We use ranges between 6 – 10 mm typically.
